South Australia Practical activities are used to stimulate and engage students enabling them to develop an understanding of financial concepts by using situations that relate to their everyday lives. The units support students from low socio-economic groups and incorporate student's background knowledge and, where appropriate, students cultural knowledge. Studies of Society and Environment (SOSE) and Mathematics are targeted and there is opportunity in some activities to achieve English outcomes. The material selected as the focus for student activities is relevant to all students, encourages narrative and is highly connected to the everyday lives of students. The activities are high in intellectual quality, supporting deep knowledge and understanding, promoting higher-order thinking and initiating substantive communication. The metalanguage introduced helps students deal with problematic knowledge.
